In keeping with the gloomy weather, today we loose a great artist.
My mother rarely missed an opportunity to remind me that when “I, Ran” or “You might think I’m crazy” would come on MTV I would run around the house the unbridled joy.
TBH I’ve never had a rediscovery of love for The Cars beyond a deep nostalgic joy when I play the the hits, but I do have an admiration for Ric Ocasek and his clear influence on a lot of bands that would come after The Cars.
I went through a period were I sang “Drive” every week as a KJ, as I was required to sing typically a few hours of every night I worked.
At the time I was going through a bad break up and I found it’s lyrics to be deeply vulnerable, simple and honest and spoke a truth we’ve probably all understood at some point in life, and it gave me a new appreciation for Ric Ocaseck.
